Description
Une feuille de papier beige pliée en deux, couverte d'une écriture manuscrite sur les pages 1 à 4.
Texte: "37-8, Imperial Buildings/ Ludgate Circus/ London/ 20 Sept 1898./ Dear Sir,/ I have been applied to buy a large Publishing Firm here for information to enable them to compile an article for a new Magazine which they are publishing. The article would be in no sense a controversial one, but would be entirely in favor of the innocence of Captain D. They also ask for photographs of the Captain, Madame Dreyfus and the children./ Before publication they are quite willing to submit the article to you, or to me on your behalf, so that nothing should appear in it which should in any way prejudice the Captain./ They also say that they believe there is every probability of the Captain being liberated, and they ask if it is possible to make any arrangement for them to have the sole right for Great Britain to publish a full account of Captain Dreyfus' experiences during his imprisonment, and for this purpose they would want an interview with him after his release./ The firm is a highly respectable one - "C. Arthur Pearson Limited," and I should be glad to know if you will in any way entertain their proposal./ They said they were willing to pay for what they want./ I think whatever they publish would be all in our favor, but of course, as I said before, I do not think it would do to give any details of what has been done, but that which is matter of history would not do harm./ I am in great hopes of a happy termination at an early date, and I trust you will all soon be relieved from any further anxiety./ I have had many applications from newspapers and other people but have declined to give particulars, but in regard to the Magazine I thought I ought to let you know what they ask./ With kindest wishes/ Yours faithfully/ J.G. Cooke".
