April 24th, 7 pm-8 pm Paris time (G.M.T.+2)
by Madeline Diaz or Stéphanie Nadalo, English speaking guides.
A online trip in English through the Jewish Marais.
The beautiful Marais neighborhood of the mahJ has long been considered the symbolic and historical heart of Jewish life in Paris.
You will discover Parisian Jewish culture past and present. As you experience the sights of this dynamic neighborhood (pictures and short videos), you will learn about key moments in French Jewish history, from the optimism following the Jewish Emancipation (1791) to the darkest days of WWII.
By following the Yiddish-speaking Ashkenazi immigrants who settled here in the 1880s and the Sephardic North African Jews who reinvigorated the Marais after the Holocaust, this presentaiton will showcase the mosaic of cultures still visible in this vibrant district today.
This online tour features views from the past and present Jewish Marais as well as short videos and maps.
